The Basics of Tithing
First! Pray that God gives you faith to obey Him. After all, tithing is a heart issue. When we do what God says, we live a life of obedience to His plan. When we align ourselves with the Creator, His will is done in our lives.
God says in Malachi 3:10 that we should test Him in this! And when we do, He will pour out His blessings in our lives!
Second, we should obey Him. Obedience is an action. The tithe means a “tenth” and through many examples in the Bible we see that God asks those who love Him to show Him through the sacrifice of the first 10 percent of everything we gain and give it to Him. The writer in Hebrews 11:4 says, Abel gave a more excellent gift because it was the first fruits of the harvest.
So, practically, what can we do to make tithing a habit of our lives? We can do a monthly budget and add the tithe as the first expense. Make it a priority and give to God 10% of your income off the top! An easy way to do that is to automate your giving online.
